This is something that I've been thinking about for a LONNNNG time and I'm wondering what other people's thoughts about it are. Would any of you joing the military after becoming a nurse? Why or why not? If so, what branch?
Also, do you all feel like Military nurses get more respect than civilian nurses?
My response to these questions are:
I WOULD join the military and I show great interest in the Navy! I'd join not only because of the opportunity to travel, but for that training I'd receive and the ability to care for soldiers who are out there fighting for our freedom, (not to sound all patriotic or anything). I don't necessarily believe military nurses get more respect, but i do believe that they get the most experience and gratification from their jobs than do civilian nurses. Anyone agree? disagree?

military nursing is great.....I am very much interested on becoming a military nurse in the future.....it is a great way of advancement and oppurtunity for anybody interested .......
what branch would you join?
Do you think military nurses get more or less respect than civilian nurses do?
I think it is a great way to travel and to help our soldiers out there but I don't think it is for me. I have a family to raise so I couldn't leave them. Im not sure about the respect aspect of the job but from what I have heard they get to do more then civilian nurses, especially when your in combat. There is a student in our class that was a navy nurse maybe he could answer some of your questions.
As for the getting the most gratification out of their jobs then civilians do, I dont think I agree with that. There are different fields of nursing that offer a lot gratification, take for example this lecture we had today on hospice, holding someone hands and crying with the family while their loved ones are dying offers a lot of gratification.
I think military nursing is an awesome job. I've been wanting to join the military even before I decided to be a nurse. As for your question who gets more respect(civilian or military nurses) I think they get the same respect, afterall nursing is one of the most noble jobs.
I am very much interested in the navy......I think military nurses get more respect because they are much exposed to an advanced setting that makes them more expereinced in their field. meaning they are more recognized as a military personnel......
I think that's a commendable career choice! If you want to know who gets more respect, I personally think it's the USAF. They have a lobbist and in turn get more funding for equiptment. My daugther was in the USAF and that's what she goes on and on about. The navy is very good too, but don't get as much money (my hubby ret 20yrs).Which ever you chose, you still go in as an officer with all the privillage that goes with that. I told our daugther to go in the USAF because I wanted her "in the rear with the gear"!
in my opinion, the USAF is definitely in the lead as far as equipment and technology that makes nursing care much more sophisticated and efficient goes. I'm still more interested in the Navy though...which is weird cuz i totally hate boats, let alone ginormous ships! LOL
I think it sounds great. I would do it if I had the chance to go. Like you said, not only for the traveling part but to help out the soldiers out there who needs help. It's an oppurtunity to experience what they go through while they're out there fighting for our freedom and security.
I had an opportunity to work side by side with navy military nurses. There are many pros and cons on being a military nurse. Based on their stories, they had great experiences. Some of them were in ships and took care of their sailors aboard the ship. Some of them were in the war zone taking care of the marines and sailors. And most of them work in the military hospitals just like civilian hospitals. Also some of the benefits on being in the military are the free medical and dental benefits, housing and food allowances, retirement benefits, and discounts (i.e. theater, sporting goods, greyhound, etc). Some of the disadvanges are the deployments (being away with family) and the risk of being in the war zone.
