FLORENCE Nightingale
I found this interesting article about Florence Nightingale. We have been taught that she was the women with a lamp that checked up on the soldiers during the Crimean war, however there may have been an underlying reason why she went around with a lamp to check on her soldiers, the reason being may have been because she was making sure that her nurses were not partying or sleeping with the injured soldiers. Her reputation as a saint may have been built up by the media or even what England made her out to be. There is a new biography that further explains the life of Florence Nightingale. What do you think about Florence after hearing about this? Do you think she really was all about checking up on the care of the soldiers care or checking up on her nurses?

Hey Pearl,
Thanks for the additional background of Florence N. In addition to being a caregivier she was like a dorm mother, monitoring or should I say blocking the activities of what is known as sexual healing :-)
Funny how the media & history tend to document whatever the person in charge of communications deem appropriate. Thanks for providing the less documented story.
hi Pearl, very interesting article...it looks like she was really strict person...
This is a really a interesting information about Florence Nightingale. In my opinion eventhough she was not really checking up on her soldiers while she was doing her rounds, she was still doing a part of her job. She demonstrated a quality of a good leader towards her fellow nurses. She took the responsibility to take accountability of the nurses. Making sure that they are not doing things that they are not supposed to do in the line of duty that could compromise the quality of care they give to their patients.
Good topic lashare keep up the good work, from my understanding about florence nightingale as the lady with the lamp, i believe she was trying to make sure nurses were not sleeping on the job just like you said, she was trying to raise nursing to a respectable proffession for women, and she was also acting as patient's advocate.
